So...Let's move

Alright- the domain has been purchased, we have test posts, it loads quicker :-)

www.worldsmostdangerousbookclub.com

I sent an email to a few to test the registering process. I encourage everyone else to please register and everyone will have access to post as a contributor.

And I would like to create a page link that explains who we are- so I am looking to the group for ideas. I will let everyone stew on that one for a while.

And I want a pic of all of us!

Let's come up with a Date for February

How about we start talking about when we'll meet up for February.

I'm good just about anydays except Monday (knitting class with my mom) and Tuesdays (exercise class).

Black Dahlia continued....

I did some checking on the author. Butch had mentioned the movie L.A. Confidential and how many of the names were similar. It turns out that Ellroy also wrote LA Confidential. Wasn't sure if everyone knew that?

Another weird fact- Ellroy's mother was murdered in 1958 and the case was never solved. He was 10 years old. Apparently he used it as the subject of another novel called My Dark Places (1996). Also on the site- they discuss his addiction to a sinus inhaler called Benzedrex- sound familiar??

You can check it out at www.ellroy.com

There is another one www.noirnovels.com Not only is Ellroy mentioned on that site but also Chuck P-the author of Survivor.

Black Dahlia

Alright- so I am extremely curious as to how everyone felt about the book??

The language or tone seemed originally to be a barrier for me. I had a hard time getting "in" to the book during the boxing/ Mr. Fire and Mr. Ice intro. However, as I read in further, the tone is what seemed to draw me into the book. If I read for longer than an hour I would walk around sounding like a 1940's cop movie. How did everyone feel about the film noir speak? Were there any terms that you had a hard time defining? (I had a hard time figuring out what a "smoker" was- ah the irony)

The other thing that was strange was the triad relationship between Bucky, Lee, and Kate? What was everyone's take on that?

A little Contest

So based on everyone's date of birth, I thought it would be fun to see if you guys could guess the name of the day. I've included everyone's birthday, even Kristine though she doesn't blog. If you've been reading- one is a gimme.

According to the ultimate Birthday Book in our group we have some one born on

The Day of the Reality Masters

The Day of the Big Bang

The Day of Tragicomic Controversy

The Day of the Brilliant Path

The Day of the Beauty Lovers

The Day of Spirited Energies

The Day of the Complete Picture

It's an interesting group. So let's see some guesses. And you are probably at an advantage if you have ever seen this book- but what the hell!!

Good Luck

UPDATE!!!

It seems like we are going to have some issues with Thurs at Spot. Butch and I have a memorial to attend. The weather for us in the north is crap. And we knew Jan dates were slim pickings ( thanks to the sabres, bandits and professional boxers). Butch starts a new job and is leaving for a few weeks as of Sun- so postponing won't help.
So why don't we try what we discussed last meeting. And this way we can cancel our Jan date. Instead of having a physical meeting we can blog about Dahlia. This way Butch can participate too since he will be online at all times.
He will return from training in early feb and then maybe we can firm up a date for Feb. Plus it'll give us all some more time to get out of the post-christmas catch-up mode.

I invited a friend to join us and check it out. So if we see any blog posts from a new Kelly- that's her. We can start blogging about Dahlia on Thurs.

Does this work for everyone?

What do you think?

Alright- my husband sent me this link.
And I'm curious if you guys agree or disagree with the theory.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/technology/technology.html?in_article_id=427961&in_page_id=1965

Basically, it says that as women approach ovulation they become more concerned with their physical appearance. At our most fertile moments of the month we will wear more jewelry and make up, flash more skin, and wear trendier clothes.

Or do they simply not understand what it is to wear period pants?

The REAL Black Dahlia

For those of you who's interest have been peeked as to the Real Black Dahlia and her unsolved murder... here is a very interesting site that is put out by the LA times (sponsored by the movie producers) that has the actual news paper clippings from 1947.

http://webapp1.latimes.com/theblackdahlia/

See how much actual fact is used in the book and how much is fiction! Very interesting.

"Black Dahlia" Fall OUT

Ok so is anyone else becoming obsessed with the crime? I'm having this problem of I must Solve this CASE!! Not to mention I'm stuck in the 1940's verbiage... What's up with that??
